SOP 6 · Long Conversation Compression — Framework Preview

The single most common ChatGPT/Claude frustration: 2 hours into a session the AI starts forgetting decisions. This SOP walks you through compressing any long chat into a 500-word memory you paste into a fresh chat.

Steps

  1. Trigger condition — current chat ≥ 3,000 words OR you notice the AI forgetting an earlier decision OR you're about to switch to a new task / fresh chat.

  2. Copy the full transcript — top to bottom of the current AI conversation.

  3. Run a structured compression prompt — output exactly 5 sections (Goal · Decisions Made · Constraints · Open Questions · Next Step). The compression prompt template is in the paid version.

  4. Verify — all 5 sections present? word count ≤ 500? "tried but didn't work" anti-patterns included under Decisions?

  5. Reload — open a fresh AI chat, paste the compressed memory as the first message. New session has full context in 1 turn instead of 15.
